Project Initiative
The Vancouver International Airport Authority, through the development of the Retail Street Fit-Out project, had an overall main objective to improve the dining and shopping experience for airport passengers within the Domestic Terminal Building. Included in this project was a new open viewing area that faces towards airside for travellers to view inbound and outbound air traffic.
Responsibilities
RJ & Associates was involved in many different construction phases throughout the duration of the project to provide various levels of consulting services relating to environmental health and safety management. Prior to the planning and development of the DTB Level 3/4 Retail Street Fit-Out project, RJ & Associates completed a due diligence survey investigation for asbestos-containing materials within the project area. The findings and results from this survey were utilized in preparing the abatement specification that was included within the final specification package developed for (YVRAA) on this project. RJ & Associates managed all aspects of the abatement of friable and non-friable asbestos-containing materials which included, site monitoring for compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, ambient, occupational and final clearance air sampling, pre-contamination inspections, final visual inspections, and tear-out inspections, and tracking of waste disposal.
