Course Overview

This 1-day comprehensive training course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to develop, administer, and support a workplace Respiratory Protection Program.

The course covers respiratory protection requirements under applicable WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety regulations and CSA respiratory protection standards. Participants learn how to identify respiratory hazards, select appropriate respirators, understand protection factors and limitations, conduct qualitative fit testing, maintain required documentation, and establish a company-specific respiratory protection program.

Participants will also receive hands-on instruction in respirator sizing, proper donning procedures, fit testing, and completion of fit-test documentation.

During the course, participants will:

  • Be sized for appropriate respirators and instructed in proper donning procedures
  • Be fit tested using qualitative methods such as irritant smoke and/or Bitrex
  • Learn and practise qualitative respirator fit-testing procedures
  • Learn how to complete required fit-test documentation
  • Receive documentation outlining their fit-test results

  • Regulations and guidelines concerning respiratory protection
  • Fit-test documentation and record keeping
  • Developing a company-specific written Respiratory Protection Program

Continuing Professional Development Credits

  • 7.0 CPD (Informal) hours through the BC Housing Licensed Builder Program
  • This course contains 7 technical hours and may be eligible for BCRSP CPD points. Participants should refer to BCRSP requirements for current CPD eligibility criteria.
